In order to distinguish between his fiction and his non-fiction work, Mark publishes his non-fiction publications under the author name Mark A. McCabe. His novels are published under the author name Mark McCabe.

While the traditional publishing path does have a number of benefits, the journey it takes authors on is not one for the faint-hearted. It can easily take 12 to 24 months, and a mail-bag full of rejection slips, just to make it into the select group of less than one percent of authors who are offered a publishing deal. Even previously published authors have no guarantee of making it over this hurdle.

And then, if that happy day does arrive, you can count on another 12 to 24 months, or more, before your book is finally published, assuming the publishing house does not change its mind and withdraw its offer somewhere along the way (which does happen).

The alternative is to self-publish and get your book on the market within a few months at most, perhaps even a few weeks, depending on your particular project and your familiarity with the process.

This frees you up to either sit back and crack open the champagne, get on with the real work — marketing and promotion — or move on to your next book and start building your portfolio of published work. Or all three of the above!

This is not a path that is just for indie authors. Many established and previously published authors are now turning to self-publication for some or all of their work.

Self Publishing: A Step-by-Step Guide is designed to equip authors with the knowledge, tools and the confidence to self-publish their manuscript. Mark says it is both comprehensive and easy to follow, encompassing self-publication of paperbacks, hardbacks, ebooks, and even a brief outline of what you need to do to self-publish an audiobook.

Mark has self-published 11 separate editions of his books: five standard paperbacks, one large print paperback, one hardback and four eBooks.
